The Zackenberg Project in Northeast Greenland has been an international research success since 1995. Therefore, the partners involved decided to establish a corresponding program in the fjord Kobbefjorden near Nuuk in Southwest Greenland in 2007 under the name Nuuk Basic. The Nuuk Basic program consists of systematic studies of the sub Arctic climate and ecosystem in parallel to the studies in high Arctic Zackenberg. The inclusion of a corresponding sub Arctic program makes it possible to study and document climate impacts and their effect in the Arctic on a broader basis. Nuuk Basic consists of 5 subprojects, involving several research institutions:
