Superimposed Ice

Superimposed Ice

In a project funded by the Greenlandic Research Council we (I) quantify superimposed ice formation and its relevance to surface mass balance for a Greenland glacier, (II) quantify the drivers of superimposed ice formation and (III) investigate the atmospheric processes that lead to its degradation. For this we use well-established detailed measurement and modeling techniques. Our primary study site will be a relatively accessible glacier near Nuuk in West Greenland where current monitoring provides an ideal foundation to study superimposed ice formation in a changing climate. The project is carried out in collaboration with GEUS (www.geus.dk).
